you might ask yourself why this title? it has nothing to do with what I have been writing before, well This blog is about everything, from professional, to personal, to the least expected one. This topic is very sensitive but at same time so important to talk about. From my research, depression was defined as a common or serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, think, or act. It causes us to be sad, and have or feel less interested in the activities we once enjoyed. The symptoms can vary depending on the individual, for some it can loss of appetite, having dark thoughts, feeling of fatigue, feeling not valued or worthless, staying in dark places, and the list goes by. Moreover, statistics showed that 1/15 (6.7%) adults has faced depression, and 1/6 (16.6%) will experience depression at some point in their life. Scaring huh?
If you have never experience depression, well you are lucky and I wish it stays that way. The reason why I am talking about this is because I once faced this, and it happened to me again not so long ago. Well, with what the world is going through right now, with people losing their jobs, social life been restricted, and just staying indoors it can have a huge effect on the morale and mind, and both women and men can face this.
Before I did not really comprehend what it was, until it happened to me and I realise I was going through it. I started feeling less enthusiast about life in general, I was tired most of the time, not been happy to get up in the morning and keep myself busy, not taking care of myself, and eating all type of foods(mostly unhealthy) which resulted in me gaining so much weight, losing my self esteem and worth. When you have so much low esteem of yourself, not enjoying the pleasures of life, or even going out, you might wonder how to overcome that dark stage of your life. Some people that goes through depression , you will not see it immediately, but just observe the way the people talk, or the attitude, it is totally different. If you know someone that is going through it, the least thing to do is to judge, or make fun of the person, instead make the person regain his or her self confidence by complementing them, talking to them about what they feel to talk at that time, just be a listener, and not point the person on what he or she is going through, watch something lifeful with the person, as comedies, make the person feel as a human, and feel valued.
When I went through it, the thing that helped , not pushing it but really taking my time , and coming to my senses, was to take the step to talk about it to people close to me, someone that I know will not judge: sister, close friend, and writing helped me too. You will know how the power of writing until you do it, it really helped a lot, just putting everything you feel at the moment on paper, every anger, regards, feeling, is a relief. Also, for those that are religious or spiritual, and if you are not, there is a beginning for everything, just talking as if you are talking to someone but that person is God, letting him know how you feely, and asking for the strength, and energy to pass that stage, just letting everything out.
Just do not feel ashamed about what you are going through, and worst ting to do is to lock yourself up in a room for days, it would not help your morale, talk about it, do not put too much pressure on yourself, slowly but surely.
Courage and you are brave!!!! God loves you.
If people could mind the way they speak and take more attention to what Goes around, i think the world will be a better place. Dépression is so deep and consuming on a sense that it take the whole shit out of you if you do not seek for help. Thank you for this and more wisdom to you 😘🙏
